Professional Bio

Dan Delaney is a Linux and Windows system administrator and computer programmer in Louisville, Ky, specializing in Unix-based, standards-oriented, AJAX Web application development with Java, PHP, Perl, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS, XML, and XSL-FO—all using UTF-8 from end-to-end. He's been building and programming computers since 1984, and began developing Web applications in 1994. He holds an associates degree in Electronic Technology, a bachelors degree in Philosophy, and a master's degree in Sociology. From 1993 to 2000 Dan taught classes on Photoshop, FreeHand, PageMaker, QuarkXPress, and Web Development for the University of Louisville and IvyTech. From 1996 to 2000 he worked at the University of Louisville as Computer Adminstrator for the Printing & Publications department, and as a Perl programmer in Information Systems. From 2000 to 2014 he worked as a Senior Software Engineer and System Administrator for Power Creative, one of Louisville's largest ad agencies. From January 2014 through November 2015 he was the IT Infrastructure Manager at The Learning House, a company that helps small colleges and universities to teach their classes online. In November 2015 he returned to Power Creative.

Writing a custom ERP system to handle orders and international logistics tracking of materials for a startup developing a fully automated cabinet manufacturing process with robotic loading of materials onto CNC machines. Utilizing PostgreSQL on cloud services, a PHP API in cloud containers, and the Sencha Ext.js frontend framework.

IT Infrastructure Manager, January 2014–November 2015

Managed a large team overseeing desktop, server, phone, and network infrastructure for a company of over 300 employees in three locations. Managed budget for all hardware and cloud services. Led transition to Puppetized virtual environments. Led transition of call center trunks from PRI to SIP. Began transition to containerizing applications on cloud services such as AWS and Azure. Built and managed a 3-node MySQL Galera cluster and 6-node Linux cluster running separate installations of Moodle for over 100 colleges. Technologies included: Netgear ProSafe switch stacks; Ubiquiti mesh wi-fi; a 4-node Red Hat Virtualization cluster with a Nexenta NAS; a 2-node VMware ESXi cluster with a Dell Compellent SAN; Interactive Intelligence call center phone system.
